These injections are used as therapeutic procedures in the treatment of certain types of pain such as radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, CRPS, and post-laminectomy syndrome. Pressure on nerves that are exiting the spinal canal will cause characteristic patterns of pain. A local anesthetic, steroid or opioids may be injected into the epidural space surrounding the dura within the spinal canal to relieve pain.
