IDET or radiofrequency annuloplasty refers to generation of heat in a degenerated annulus. When heated, annular fibers contract and tighten. Heat also ablates the nociceptors in the annulus and hence decreases the axial low back pain. This also can relieve significant radicular pain when caused by a full-thickness annular tear or referred pain from a sensitized annulus. IDET or radiofrequency annuloplasty is a possible alternative to disc fusion.
